Who We Are - Southside Caring Hearts
Our Story
On a cold December night in 2022 my husband and myself were driving down Hull Street and saw a group of people sleeping on the steps of an abandoned church in Southside Richmond, it was 17 degrees outside and we knew we needed to do something to help them. Motivated by the urgency of their situation, we decided to take action. We continued to our house and gathered every blanket we could find and returned to the church and covered each one of those people up . It was not merely about providing blankets and sleeping bags ; we envisioned creating a support system that would empower those in need. After brainstorming ideas, we founded Southside Caring Hearts, a community initiative aimed at offering assistance and resources to homeless individuals. Our goal was to build connections and provide hope, fostering a sense of belonging within our community.
As word about Southside Caring Hearts spread, the community rallied behind our cause. Volunteers of all ages came forward, bringing not just donations but also their time and skills to help. Together, we organized SHARE THE WARMTH RVA and were able to provide the basic necessities and life saving supplies to our most vulnerable neighbor laying.the foundation for a network of support. The joy in the eyes of those we served became our motivation to keep pushing forward.
Over time, Southside Caring Hearts grew, becoming a symbol of resilience and compassion in Richmond. What began as a chance encounter transformed into a lifeline for many. The stories shared by the individuals we assisted spurred us to continue our efforts, reflecting the unity that blossomed among the community. With each event, we not only provided for those in need but also reinforced the belief that collective action could foster change.
In the end, Southside Caring Hearts was not just about addressing homelessness; it became a movement of hope, reminding us that everyone has the power to make a difference. The seeds of compassion we planted through our humble beginnings flourished into a vibrant community where empathy and kindness thrived. It was a journey fueled by love and commitment, illuminating the path for those who felt lost and forgotten.

WELCOME HOME SHAMORA
Shamora is one one our success stories. She lost her house in October and was without a place to live, she came to our home in November and has been here since then. She has been desperately trying to get another house for herself and January 3rd she will be signing a lease for her own house. Starting over is hard and expensive and we are collecting donations for her to help with the initial expenses. Any amount will help and be appreciated.
